New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on November 15. At around 10 a.m., he will inspect the under-construction Bullet Train Station in Surat and review the progress of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR). This project is one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure initiatives and marks the country’s entry into the era of high-speed connectivity.

The MAHSR corridor spans approximately 508 km — 352 km across Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and 156 km in Maharashtra. The corridor will connect major cities including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane and Mumbai, making it a transformative milestone in India’s transport infrastructure.

Constructed using advanced engineering technologies meeting international standards, about 465 km (around 85% of the route) is elevated on bridges to ensure minimal land disturbance and enhanced safety. So far, 326 km of the viaduct has been completed, along with 17 of the 25 river bridges.

Upon completion, the bullet train will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to nearly two hours, revolutionising intercity travel by making it faster, smoother and more comfortable. The project is expected to boost trade, tourism and economic activity along the entire corridor, accelerating regional development.

The 47-km Surat–Bilimora section is in its final stage of construction, with civil works and track laying fully completed. The design of the Surat station draws inspiration from the city’s world-renowned diamond industry, reflecting both grandeur and efficiency. The station has been planned with modern passenger amenities, including spacious waiting areas, restrooms and retail spaces, and will offer seamless multi-modal connectivity with Surat Metro, city buses and the Indian Railways network.
