Ajmer: The historic and culturally rich city of Ajmer in Rajasthan is set to receive a major boost in education and healthcare with the establishment of an Ayurveda University, a vision that has long been envisaged and is now coming to fruition. The initiative is the fulfillment of a longstanding dream of Vasudev Devnani, Speaker of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, who has played a key role in making this vision a reality.

On Monday, the Rajasthan Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy University, Ajmer Bill, 2026 was unanimously passed in the Rajasthan Assembly. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Ajmer will now have its second state university in 38 years.

According to the act, the university will have a Management Board, Academic Council, Faculty Board, Study and Research Committees, Finance and Accounts Committee, Sports & Student Welfare Board, and an Innovation Board. After the Chancellor appoints the Vice-Chancellor, the Management Board will be constituted. Under the Faculty Board, programs will include Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy, and other faculties as per the National Education Policy. The state government has allocated 11.93 hectares of land from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer for this university.

The establishment of this Ayurveda University is expected to provide new direction to Ayurvedic medical education and research not only in Ajmer but across Rajasthan. Ajmer has historically been a center of education, spirituality, and cultural heritage, attracting students and devotees from across the country and abroad. The need for such a university has been long recognized.

During his political career, Vasudev Devnani consistently emphasized the importance of establishing this institution and highlighted the need to the state government. Even during his tenure as Rajasthan’s Education Minister, he initiated several reforms and efforts to establish new institutions. His vision has always been to develop Ajmer into a major academic hub, and the Ayurveda University is a result of this forward-thinking approach.

The Rajasthan government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, is working actively to promote traditional medical practices. The establishment of the Ayurveda University in Ajmer is seen as a significant step toward giving new recognition to Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, strengthening Rajasthan’s position nationally in Ayurvedic education.

Expressing his happiness over the bill’s passage, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani said that Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma had realized his dream.
