UDAIPUR — Under a vibrant sky echoing with patriotic fervor, the City of Lakes celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with grand festivities centered at the iconic Gandhi Ground. The district-level celebration brought together public representatives, civil administrators, military veterans, media professionals, students, and citizens to honor the nation's freedom and its guardians. A Historic Musical Beginning and Parade In a historic departure from tradition, the official ceremony commenced for the first time with the soul-stirring notes of the national song, Vande Mataram, followed immediately by the flag hoisting and the collective singing of Jana Gana Mana. Chief Guest Babulal Kharadi, Cabinet Minister for Tribal Regional Development and Home Guard, unfurled the tricolor and inspected the ceremonial parade. The march past delivered an inspiring display of discipline and synchronicity under the direction of retired military officer Premshankar Shrimali (NCC Headquarters, Udaipur) and Parade Commander Punaram Gurjar. Contingents from the Rajasthan Police, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts, and Guides marched in step to the tunes of the Police Band led by Master Kanhaiyalal and the Digambar Jain Vidyalaya Band. Honoring Supreme Sacrifice and Exemplary Service A deeply poignant moment unfolded as Minister Kharadi and dignitaries presented shawls and shrifal (coconut) to salute the families of Udaipur’s revered martyrs and freedom fighters: Family of Martyr Lieutenant Abhinav Nagori Family of Shaurya Chakra Awardee Martyr Major Mustafa Family of Freedom Fighter Kanhaiyalal Ji In recognition of exceptional public service, professional leadership, and societal contributions, 69 distinguished individuals and organizations across various fields were honored with certificates of merit: Prominent Community & Corporate Awardees: Kalpesh Chandra Rajbar (GM Marketing, GMCH) and Roshan Lal Jain (Advocate) were specially felicitated for their outstanding professional contributions, leadership, and dedicated service to the region. Journalism & Media: Key media personnel and journalists were recognized for their commitment to impactful reporting and keeping the public informed. Administration & Law Enforcement: Additional SP (ATS) Buddhraj Takhar, Deputy SP Heramb Joshi, Tehsildar Parvat Singh Rathore, Girdawar Bhanwarlal Jat, Information Assistant Devendra Kumar Nagda, and Police Constable Driver Kuldeep Singh. Master of Ceremonies Rajendra Sen, Dr. Seema Champawat, Ragini Paneri, and Ranveer Singh Ranawat guided the proceedings, while ADM Administration Deependra Singh read the Governor’s address. Addressing the gathering, Minister Kharadi urged the youth to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of freedom fighters and actively participate in building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
