Udaipur. Paras Health Udaipur has successfully performed the Renal Denervation (RDN) procedure for the first time in South Rajasthan, marking a major milestone in advanced cardiac treatment. Under the leadership of Dr. Amit Khandelwal, Director & HOD, Cardiology, the hospital has become one of the few centers in the state equipped to offer RDN for patients suffering from resistant hypertension.
The announcement was made as recent 2025 meta-analysis findings revealed that 27% of Indian adults are affected by high blood pressure. NFHS-5 data also showed that nearly half of hypertensive Indian men and over one-third of women fail to achieve blood pressure control despite multiple medications.
The RDN case was led by Dr. Amit Khandelwal, supported by Dr. Nitin Kaushik, Cardiac Intensivist, and Dr. Jayesh Khandelwal, Consultant – Non-Invasive Cardiology. The procedure uses a catheter to deliver radiofrequency energy to overactive sympathetic nerves around the renal arteries, thereby lowering blood pressure in patients unresponsive to conventional drug therapy. The minimally invasive procedure requires 45–60 minutes, uses local anesthesia, and most patients are discharged the same or next day.
Dr. Amit Khandelwal stated that resistant hypertension is not due to lack of awareness or treatment compliance but due to biological resistance where medications fail to control blood pressure effectively. RDN, he emphasized, scientifically targets the overactive nerve response that drugs cannot always manage.
Facility Director, Dr. Prasun Kumar, said that introducing RDN locally will reduce the need for patients to travel to metropolitan hospitals for advanced hypertension treatment. He added that Paras Health Udaipur is committed to evidence-based, high-end cardiac technologies supported by expert clinical teams and robust protocols.
RDN is recommended for adults with resistant hypertension whose blood pressure remains uncontrolled despite at least three antihypertensive medications, including a diuretic. Evaluation of kidney function and renal artery anatomy is conducted prior to the procedure.
With RDN now available, Paras Health Udaipur has strengthened its cardiovascular services, providing advanced diagnostics and interventional care for complex heart conditions.
