Railway GM Inspects Srinagar-Katra Rail Section Amid Heavy Snow

New Delhi: Northern Railway’s General Manager, **Mr. Ashok Kumar Verma**, conducted a thorough inspection of the **Srinagar-Katra rail section** on Thursday. The inspection took place at a critical time when the **Kashmir Valley is experiencing heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures**, creating extremely challenging weather conditions.

According to **Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay**, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, during his visit, the GM inspected several major stations including **Srinagar, Pampore, Anantnag, and Qazigund**. He closely reviewed the **passenger amenities** at these stations to ensure that travelers face minimal inconvenience despite the severe cold.

Mr. Verma also paid special attention to **maintenance and construction activities on various tunnels and bridges**. To ensure the highest safety standards, he personally inspected critical track components such as **points, switches, and turnouts**, making sure they function smoothly even under extreme cold.

A highlight of the inspection was the GM’s interaction with **ground staff and track maintenance employees**. Acknowledging their dedication to working in freezing temperatures, Mr. Verma sought **direct feedback on the challenges they face in maintaining the tracks during winter**. He emphasized, *“The safety and welfare of our employees working tirelessly in sub-zero temperatures is of utmost priority.”*

He directed the accompanying officials to **immediately provide all essential winter equipment and safety gear** to the workforce. He stressed that considering the current climatic conditions, the workforce must be fully equipped to carry out track maintenance effectively.

Concluding the inspection, the GM reviewed **other ongoing infrastructure projects in the region** and advised all officials to **adhere strictly to timelines** to ensure that the rail network remains robust and that progress is not hampered by the harsh weather.
