Jammu: The Jammu Division of Northern Railway achieved a significant milestone on Wednesday by extending the special train (Train No. 04688/04687), which previously operated between Budgam and Banihal, up to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. To enhance the travel experience, a Vistadome coach has been attached to the train, captivating passengers on its first extended journey.
Mr. Raghavendra Singh, Public Relations Inspector of Jammu Railway Division, stated that the operation of the special train on the first day was successful, with more than 600 passengers enjoying the journey. Local residents and tourists expressed their gratitude to the Railways for this historic step, noting that extending the train service from Banihal to Katra has significantly improved connectivity for the region.
During the journey, passengers relished breathtaking views of mountains, rivers, and tunnels through the Vistadome coach’s glass roof and large transparent windows. They also witnessed remarkable engineering marvels, including the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River and the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Mr. Uchit Singhal stated that this initiative aims to make travel more comfortable and visually enriching through the Vistadome coach while promoting tourism in Kashmir. On its inaugural extended run, passengers highly appreciated the special train, describing the journey as thrilling and memorable.
