India’s Sanatan Culture Can Teach the World the Path of Peace and Brotherhood – Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani

Jaipur: Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri Vasudev Devnani stated that at a time when the world is engulfed in violence, India’s Sanatan culture, along with its principles of non-violence and harmony, has become more relevant than ever. He emphasized that these principles must not only be discussed but also practiced in daily life.

Shri Devnani was addressing a grand event organized by the Jain International Trade Organization (JITO) on the occasion of “World Navkar Mahamantra Day” at the Anuvibha Centre on Acharya Tulsi Marg in Malviya Nagar, Jaipur. The program was held in the presence of Acharyas, monks, and nuns from various Jain sects. The event included a collective chanting of the Navkar Mahamantra, spreading the message of peace, harmony, and positive energy across the world.

He pointed out that rising tensions among countries such as Russia, Ukraine, the United States, Israel, and Iran have created an atmosphere of insecurity and crisis for humanity. In such times, India’s Sanatan culture can guide the world toward peace and brotherhood. He added that becoming a global leader is not possible through technological advancement alone; it also requires embracing spiritual strength and inner peace.

Shri Devnani remarked that India has never aspired to become a global superpower. Instead, it has always acted as a guide for the world and will continue to lead with values of peace, harmony, non-violence, and human welfare. He noted that despite current global conflicts, India remains stable, attributing this to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s policy of non-alignment. He also mentioned that Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah joined the event virtually from the national capital, reflecting India’s commitment to global peace and harmony.

Highlighting the importance of the Navkar Mahamantra, he said that its chanting is linked to the welfare of humanity. It is not merely the recitation of words but holds deep scientific significance, representing a divine call arising from the soul and generating positive energy. He stressed that India’s Sanatan philosophy embodies the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world is one family—and promotes universal well-being.

He further said that Jain saints, through principles like non-violence, restraint, and non-possession, guide humanity. He observed that Jain monks have a strong tradition of study and knowledge. He emphasized the need to explain Sanatan values to the younger generation through a scientific perspective. Non-violence, he said, is not limited to physical actions but also includes avoiding harm through thoughts, speech, and deeds. He urged people to let go of anger, hatred, and ego, and adopt discipline and self-restraint in life.

Shri Devnani also explained that the practice of Jain monks covering their mouths is not superstition but a symbol of compassion toward even the smallest living beings and awareness toward the environment. He noted that such principles align closely with modern concepts of ecology and biodiversity. He added that he personally follows the principle of non-possession and encouraged everyone to dedicate a portion of their income for the welfare of society.

On this occasion, Shri Devnani honored representatives of various Jain sects with mementos. The event was attended by prominent Jain Acharyas, monks, nuns, and several distinguished guests, including former Deputy Mayor of Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation Shri Puneet Karnawat, JITO Jaipur Chapter Chairperson Mrs. Saloni Jain, General Secretary Shri Hitesh Bhandia, and other dignitaries.
