Udaipur: The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Committee on the Welfare of Backward Classes visited Udaipur district on Thursday to review the progress of schemes aimed at the upliftment and welfare of backward communities. A review meeting was held in the District Council Auditorium under the chairmanship of Committee Chairman and Taranagar MLA Shri Narendra Budania, where the implementation of various welfare schemes, beneficiary status, and budget allocations were examined.
Committee members and MLAs Shri Harlal Saharan (Churu) and Shri Lalit Yadav (Mundawar) were also present during the meeting.
Chairman Narendra Budania stated that one of the committee’s primary responsibilities is to assess whether the state government's welfare schemes are effectively reaching the common people. He noted that the committee’s recommendations are presented before the Legislative Assembly, forming the basis for necessary policy decisions and improvements. He also mentioned plans to organize similar interaction programs within the Assembly premises in the future. The chairman informed that the committee would conduct a follow-up review of the directions issued during the meeting after three months.
During the meeting, local public representatives and social workers presented various suggestions related to the upliftment of the OBC (Other Backward Classes) and MBC (Most Backward Classes) communities. Chairman Budania directed officials to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of government schemes and to undertake extensive awareness campaigns among OBC, MBC, and other deprived sections of society. He emphasized that the true success of welfare schemes lies in ensuring that their benefits reach the last eligible person in society.
The committee reviewed applications received from OBC beneficiaries and their disposal status under various schemes of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department. It also examined welfare initiatives implemented by the Labour Department, Agriculture Department, the Prime Minister Kusum Scheme, Self-Help Group programs, and other welfare schemes, focusing on the participation and benefits received by OBC and MBC communities.
Officials from various departments presented detailed reports on the progress of schemes and beneficiary coverage in the district. The committee also reviewed budget allocations and expenditure under different welfare programs.
Among those present at the meeting were District Collector Gaurav Agrawal, Superintendent of Police Dr. Amrita Duhan, Additional District Collector (City) Jitendra Ojha, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the District Council Virma Ram, along with district-level officers from various departments, social workers, and local public representatives.
