250 Saplings Planted at Shilpgram in Major Green Initiative

Udaipur: Around 250 saplings of various species were planted at Shilpgram on Sunday during a large-scale plantation drive jointly organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), Udaipur, the Rotary Club of Udaipur, and the Forest Department. The initiative aimed to strengthen environmental conservation and develop the renowned cultural complex into a greener "Oxygen Pocket."

The programme was inaugurated by WZCC Director Dr. Ashwin M. Dalvi, who stressed that protecting the environment is essential for preserving culture. He urged participants to ensure the care and maintenance of saplings until they grow into mature trees, emphasizing that plantation should be a long-term commitment rather than a symbolic activity.

A large number of volunteers participated in the drive through community service, making the campaign a success. The event also saw the presence of Conservator of Forests Ajay Chittora, Deputy Director Pawan Amarawat, Assistant Director Durgesh Chandwani, Superintending Engineer C.L. Salvi, Programme Executive Hemant Mehta, along with officials of the Forest Department, Rotary Club of Udaipur, and the West Zone Cultural Centre.

The plantation included species such as Neem, Ashoka, Banyan, Peepal, Jamun, Mahua, Bougainvillea, Royal Palm, Tamarind, Custard Apple, Bael, and indigenous mango, among others.
