Udaipur: Pankaj Kumar Sharma, General Secretary and Spokesperson of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, has described the state government’s alleged U-turn on the Right to Health as an inhumane and anti-people decision. He stated that it appears as if the government wants common citizens to suffer from illness and even die due to lack of medical treatment.
Sharma said that essential services like healthcare should be the top priority of any government, but the present administration has sidelined them. He emphasized that the poor, farmers, laborers, and middle-class families cannot afford expensive medical treatment. Weakening a scheme like the Right to Health, he added, is a direct attack on the people’s fundamental right to life.
He further remarked that if the government wishes to change the names or photographs associated with schemes, no one would object. However, rendering welfare schemes ineffective is completely unacceptable. People need real facilities and services, not publicity or political showmanship.
Sharma also alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party government is discontinuing public welfare schemes merely to claim political credit, which he termed unfortunate. He asserted that the Congress party will not allow any compromise on the public’s right to healthcare and will launch an agitation if necessary.
