Young Artists Depict Mewar’s Cultural Heritage Through Museum-Themed Paintings

Udaipur: The Museum Fortnight organized by the local centre of the Anthropological Survey of India, Udaipur, concluded on Tuesday with an impressive display of museum-themed artworks created by young painters and students. As part of the closing event, a painting camp was organized for students of the Department of Visual Arts, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, and Pacific University.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Ashwin K. Dalvi, Director of the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC). Addressing the participants, he highlighted the creativity of artists, the diverse forms and relevance of art, and its connection with spirituality. He remarked that artists create freely and transform their imagination into reality through their work.

Dr. Nilanjan Khatua, Head of the Anthropological Survey of India’s Udaipur Centre, stated that the young artists produced highly creative and visually appealing paintings based on the museum theme. Renowned historian Dr. Shrikrishna “Jugnu” spoke about the rich tradition of Mewar painting, noting that prehistoric artworks created by early humans in the Aravalli and Vindhyachal ranges continue to narrate the story of human civilization.

He further said that the Mewar School of Painting and its sub-styles, flourishing across regions such as Girwa, Chawand, Nathdwara, Gilund, and Deogarh, have earned worldwide recognition. Scholars across the globe continue to study and discuss the distinctive Mewari painting tradition.

Dr. Deepika Mali informed that participants including Divya Bangad, Anjali Suthar, Chirag Salvi, Jayesh Vaishnav, Amit Regar, Priyanka Raloti, Girja Teli, Sanskar Pawar, Chandan Singh Baghel, and Dinesh Wagaria, along with several other young artists, brought Mewar’s cultural heritage to life on canvas by depicting temples, sculptures, and museum artefacts of the region.

The programme was also attended by Prof. Dharmveer Vashishtha, Head of the Department of Visual Arts, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, who encouraged and motivated the young artists. The event was compered by Ms. Sudipa Mandal.
