Udaipur: The Department of Agriculture and ATMA, Chittorgarh, organized a Kharif Farmers’ Seminar on Thursday at Bari Sadri under the “Save the Fields” campaign. Around 100 farmers and women farmers from nearby Gram Panchayats participated in the program.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ratan Lal Solanki, Senior Scientist and Head of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), provided technical guidance on modern farming practices. Expressing concern over declining soil health and fertility, he emphasized the importance of balanced fertilizer application. He stated that, considering the difficulties in the supply of chemical fertilizers and the rise in their prices, the Government of India has launched the “Save the Fields” campaign.
Dr. Solanki explained that excessive use of chemical fertilizers not only increases cultivation costs but also reduces soil fertility over time and contaminates groundwater. He noted that imbalanced fertilizer use has become a serious challenge for agriculture. While excessive fertilizer application may initially result in good yields, it ultimately leads to soil degradation and reduced productivity in the long run.
Dr. Harish Kumar Tak, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Chittorgarh, advised farmers to get their soil tested and make use of Soil Health Cards. He encouraged them to adopt soil test-based fertilizer application and balanced nutrient management according to crop requirements. He also urged farmers to increase the use of organic manure, compost, vermicompost, and adopt natural farming practices.
Ram Chandra Dangi, Assistant Agriculture Officer, Bari Sadri, highlighted the importance of crop rotation and green manuring for maintaining soil quality and improving long-term agricultural sustainability.
Progressive farmer and Agriculture Supervisor Dr. Raju Binke, along with officials from the Animal Husbandry Department and Agriculture Department, including Rameshwar Lal Prajapat, Ishwar Lal Rawat, Ashok Singh Meena, Kalawati Dhakad, Gayatri Khatik, Roshni Samaria, Rahul Samaria, Mahipal Jat, Basanti Lal Dhakad, Hariram Meena, Vikas Prajapat, Chanda Dhakad, Kanhaiyalal Dhakad, Pushpendra Gurjar, and other Agriculture Supervisors, were present during the seminar.
