Development of Need-Based Innovative Agricultural Implements for Farmers at CTAE, MPUAT Udaipur

Udaipur: Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pratap Singh of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT) visited the Farm Machinery Testing Center of the Department of Farm Machinery and Power at the College of Technology and Engineering (CTAE) and reviewed various newly developed agricultural implements. On this occasion, CTAE scientists demonstrated modern agricultural machinery testing equipment.

During the inspection, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pratap Singh laid special emphasis on the development of need-based and innovative agricultural tools keeping farmers’ requirements at the center. He stated that the primary objective of these implements is to enhance farmers’ productivity and income. He emphasized that agricultural operations should be made simpler, cost-effective, and more profitable by developing equipment aligned with the real challenges faced by farmers.

The Vice-Chancellor directed that special teams of students and research scholars be formed to visit nearby villages and interact directly with farmers to identify their key (thrust) needs through surveys. Based on the survey findings, low-cost, user-friendly, and efficient agricultural machines should be designed and developed for farmers.

He further stated that this process would provide students with valuable practical exposure, while farmers would receive technological solutions tailored to their specific needs. The Vice-Chancellor also informed that Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) would be signed in the near future with agricultural machinery manufacturers to promote industry–university collaboration for the joint development of requirement-based farm machinery.

At present, CTAE scientists are developing several innovative agricultural implements, including battery-operated seed drills for seed spice crops and sweet corn, harvesting machines for henna crops, and threshers for seed spice crops. These machines are being designed in accordance with local conditions and farmers’ requirements.

This initiative will ensure the availability of modern, affordable, and practical agricultural machinery for farmers, thereby making agriculture more sustainable and profitable.
