Solar Siren and Home Lighting Systems Distributed During One-Day Farmer Training Program at KVK Chittorgarh

Udaipur: With rising electricity costs becoming a growing concern for both rural and urban households, access to reliable lighting remains a significant issue. In rural areas, the continued use of traditional fuels such as kerosene lamps for nighttime lighting has been adversely affecting the health of women over time.

Addressing this issue, Dr. Ratan Lal Solanki, Senior Scientist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chittorgarh, conducted an awareness session on solar-powered home lighting systems for rural communities.

A one-day farmer training program was organized at KVK Chittorgarh under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Energy in Agriculture and Agro-Industries of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur.

Kapil Samar, Project Officer from Udaipur, provided detailed information about the solar home lighting system. He explained that the system can be fully charged within 6 to 7 hours using solar panels and can provide illumination throughout the night for homes or farms. It also includes an optional mobile charging facility.

Dr. Solanki also shared insights on the solar siren system. He explained that crop damage caused by wild animals such as nilgai and wild boars during the night is a major concern for farmers. As a cost-effective solution, solar siren systems can be installed. These systems charge during the day using sunlight and emit siren-like sounds at one-minute intervals during the night, creating fear among animals and significantly reducing their movement into farmlands.

Kapil Samar further elaborated on solar energy-based devices and biogas technology. He informed farmers about the methods of producing biogas using locally available agricultural and animal waste, along with details on maintenance and the potential monthly and annual benefits.

During the concluding session, under the All India Coordinated Research Project, one solar home lighting system and one solar siren system were distributed to SC category farmers of the Gram Panchayat.

Gajendra Patel and other project representatives were also present during the program.
