UDAIPUR — Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), a constituent of Sai Tirupati University, observed World Population Day 2026 by organizing a family planning awareness program in its adopted village of Umarada.
The initiative was carried out by National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers and MBBS students under the guidance of Dr. Avantika Gupta, NSS Programme Officer. The students conducted door-to-door visits to educate residents about the benefits of small families, maternal and child health, the importance of birth spacing, and the use of various contraceptive methods. Awareness was also created through informative charts and counseling sessions.
At the medical college, Dr. Gupta organized a quiz competition focusing on the National Family Planning Programme and India's current Total Fertility Rate (TFR) to enhance students' understanding of population and reproductive health issues.
The program also included a demonstration of different contraceptive methods, highlighting their benefits, effectiveness and appropriate use. Participants pledged to spread the message of "Small Family, Happy Family" throughout the community.
Faculty members including Dr. Yogesh Singhal, Dr. Mehul Patel and Dr. Rajyalakshmi, along with other staff members of the college, attended the event.
