Dr. Amit Khandelwal Successfully Performs High-Risk TAVI at Paras Health Udaipur, Giving New Life to 75-Year-Old Patient

Udaipur: A 75-year-old elderly patient suffering from severe aortic valve disease and circulatory shock was given a new lease on life following successful treatment at Paras Health Udaipur. The complex and high-risk Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure was successfully performed under the leadership of Dr. Amit Khandelwal, Director and Head of the Cardiology Department.

The patient was brought to the hospital in a critical condition, experiencing severe chest pain, extreme breathlessness, acute weakness, and dangerously low blood pressure. He was immediately admitted to the ICU, where a multidisciplinary cardiac team initiated advanced life-saving treatment, including ventilatory support, essential medications, and blood transfusion.

Echocardiography and CT-TAVI investigations revealed that the patient’s aortic valve had become severely narrowed and heavily calcified, significantly obstructing blood flow from the heart. After stabilizing his condition, the heart team conducted a detailed evaluation and proceeded with the minimally invasive TAVI procedure, which was successfully completed. This technique is considered especially effective for elderly patients and those at high surgical risk.

Dr. Amit Khandelwal stated that timely and accurate diagnosis, coordinated critical care, and the appropriate use of advanced imaging technologies made it possible to save the patient’s life.

Facility Director Dr. Prasoon Kumar said that Paras Health Udaipur is continuously strengthening advanced cardiac and structural heart services in southern Rajasthan, ensuring that patients in the region do not have to travel to metropolitan cities for world-class treatment.
