The event witnessed the presence of university dignitaries, faculty, staff, and a large number of students who added warmth to the celebration. The evening began with a warm welcome, followed by an introduction to SPIC MACAY’s mission of preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage. The traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, performed by the guest artists and university dignitaries, set a graceful tone for the programme. The mesmerizing sitar performance by renowned maestro Ustad Shakir Khan,
accompanied by Shri Aditya Deshpande on tanpura and Shri Sandeep Nagda on tabla, created a serene and immersive musical experience. Their harmonious blend of melody and rhythm kept the audience deeply engaged. An interactive session allowed students to ask questions about classical music, playing techniques, and the learning process. Ustad Shakir Khan responded with patience and insight, helping students appreciate the depth and discipline of Indian classical traditions.
The event was smoothly coordinated by Prof. (Lt.) (Dr.) D. S. Chouhan and Dr. Archana Gajbhiye. The evening proved to be a memorable cultural experience, inspiring the SPSU community to value and enjoy India’s traditional art forms.
