Sri Ganganagar: District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav said that, as per state government directives, the Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Abhiyan will be conducted in the district from May 25 to June 5. The campaign was inaugurated on May 25 at Shivpur Head with rituals, a Kalash Yatra, cultural programs, Peepal tree worship, and plantation activities.
The District Collector was addressing a press conference held at the Collectorate auditorium on Monday, where he briefed media representatives about the campaign. He stated that the main objective of the initiative is to conserve water structures. Under this campaign, cleaning and desilting of water sources, canals, and waterways will be carried out across the district.
He further informed that the government has set a target of planting 50 crore saplings across the state, out of which Sri Ganganagar district alone will plant 27 lakh saplings. Several locations including Bidhwal and Shivpur Head have been identified for large-scale plantation activities.
The Collector also said that district-level programs will include cleanliness drives at local cow shelters, veterinary hospitals, and dairy unions, along with seminars and discussions at district and block levels. Media field visits will also be organized to ensure wider awareness.
He added that with the support of departments, donors, and NGOs, activities such as “Vande Ganga Jal Seva” will be conducted at railway stations, bus stands, grain markets, and other public places. Initiatives will also include cleaning of drinking water sources, public awareness campaigns on water conservation, water testing drives, cleaning and repair of government buildings, and preparatory work for roadside plantation.
The campaign will also promote CSR workshops, water usage audits, energy audits, and green budgeting initiatives. During the campaign, rituals and cleanliness drives will be organized at rivers, dams, and canals, along with Jal Shakti initiatives, foundation stone laying of new projects, and inauguration of completed works.
He also shared updates regarding wheat procurement, drinking water arrangements, contamination issues in canal water, and city waste management.
