###Governor Calls Agriculture India’s Economic Backbone

Udaipur,  Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde on Saturday described agriculture and allied sectors as the backbone of India’s economy and urged young people to use technology, innovation and entrepreneurship to make farming a stronger source of employment and prosperity.

Speaking at the inauguration of the second North West Zone conference of Agrivision at Rajasthan College of Agriculture, affiliated with Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Bagde said agriculture had historically formed the foundation of India’s economic and social progress.

He encouraged youth not to view farming only as a traditional occupation but to connect it with research, startups, processing and value addition. He said modern opportunities in agricultural technology and entrepreneurship could help transform the sector and create new avenues of growth.

Highlighting India’s knowledge heritage, Bagde said the country’s scientific traditions in agriculture, mathematics and astronomy remained relevant even today. He referred to scholars such as Aryabhata, Bhaskaracharya and Maharishi Parashara, saying their contributions reflected a long-standing culture of innovation.

The governor also invoked the legacy of Maharana Pratap, saying his efforts during adverse circumstances were not limited to warfare but also aimed at protecting agriculture and improving people’s lives. He called the ruler’s life an example of self-reliance, dignity and innovation for young generations.

During the ceremony, Bagde released the Agrivision souvenir and a booklet highlighting the achievements of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology.

He also visited an exhibition on the life and teachings of Sant Ravidas, paid floral tribute to the statues of Maharana Pratap and Bharat Mata, and planted a sapling under the “Hariyalo Rajasthan” campaign, urging citizens to participate in environmental conservation and care for planted trees.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Pratap Singh, Rajasthan College of Agriculture Dean Lokesh Gupta, and Agrivision representatives Ashwini Sharma, Tanvi Chaudhary and Dr. Anshul Sharma were present at the event.
