Udaipur: With water conservation emerging as one of the most pressing environmental challenges, the Department of Community Medicine, Geetanjali Medical College organised a special awareness lecture on water conservation and environmental protection under the Mission LiFE initiative, as part of the World Environment Day Pre-Campaign 2026.

The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Mukul Dixit, Head of the Department, and coordinated by Dr. Hemlata Mittal, Nodal Officer.

Focus on groundwater and water-related health risks

Renowned water expert Dr. P. C. Jain, who was the keynote speaker, interacted with students and highlighted the growing concerns surrounding declining groundwater levels, water pollution and the increasing water crisis.

Emphasising the need for immediate and collective action, Dr. Jain advocated rainwater conservation and rooftop rainwater harvesting as important measures for sustainable water management. He also drew attention to health concerns associated with contaminated groundwater, including diseases such as fluorosis and arsenicosis.

“Speak up for water, turn down the tap”

Dr. Jain delivered a simple yet impactful message — “Speak up for water, turn down the tap” — encouraging students to make water conservation a part of their everyday lives.

The session included an interactive discussion with students, a quiz and practical suggestions on reducing water wastage and adopting responsible water-use practices.

Faculty members including Dr. Anjana Verma, Dr. Medha Mathur, Dr. Jyoti Jain, Dr. Bhagraj Chaudhary, Dr. D. R. Beniwal, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Suresh Chaudhary, Dr. Abhishek Kumar, Dr. Anshika Jain, Dr. Prakhar Sharma, Dr. Vichitra Vibhuti Bhushan, Dr. Dilshano Thayyem, Dr. Mudit Jain, Dr. Prabhat Ranjan, Dr. Tanisha Kumawat and Dr. Purnima Sharma, along with senior and junior faculty members of the department, attended the programme.

The event concluded with the presentation of a memento to Dr. P. C. Jain in recognition of his valuable contribution and awareness efforts.

The programme reinforced the message that every drop saved today can contribute to a more sustainable and healthier tomorrow.
