Kota: Outgoing councillor Salina Sheri has written to the Municipal Commissioner demanding stringent measures to address the increasing attacks by stray dogs in Kota. She stated that in many areas of the city, the menace of stray dogs has risen to such an extent that residents are finding it difficult to step out of their homes.
Salina Sheri highlighted that daily attacks are being reported in areas including Saji Dehda Basti, Kishorpura, Wakf Nagar, Chambal Garden, Garh Palace, Vigyan Nagar Sector-1, Nayapura, Collectorate Complex, Gandhi Colony, and Mala Phatak. Recently, in Vigyan Nagar, a three-year-old child was attacked by dogs while walking with his grandfather, suffering serious injuries to the shoulder, back, arms, and legs.
She further stated that in Nayapura and the Collectorate area, a single dog has reportedly bitten more than 20 people. The situation is so alarming that in January alone, over 665 people were treated for dog bites at MBS Hospital, with an average of more than 20 patients per day currently seeking treatment for dog bites.
Fear Among Parents and Residents
Salina Sheri noted that the problem has escalated from a personal concern to a serious public safety issue. Parents are afraid to let their children play outside, and elderly residents are hesitant to leave their homes. The situation is also putting additional pressure on hospitals.
Key Actions Demanded from the Municipal Corporation
In her letter, Salina Sheri urged the Municipal Corporation to:
•    Immediately capture stray dogs roaming in the city’s streets and sensitive areas.
•    Safely house captured dogs at municipal shelters or dog centers.
•    Identify aggressive dogs and launch targeted campaigns against them.
•    Strengthen ABC (Animal Birth Control) and anti-rabies vaccination programs.
•    Deploy rescue teams and conduct regular patrolling in areas with high incidents of dog bites.
