Jaipur. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya (MAA) Yojana, implemented in Rajasthan, has now emerged as a landmark model for the entire nation. Millions of beneficiary families covered under the scheme will now be able to avail free treatment even in other states across India. Owing to the Chief Minister’s historic initiative and the efforts of Medical & Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, a vast network of more than 30,000 hospitals across the country has now been integrated into the scheme. This will enable citizens of the state to receive quality healthcare in reputed hospitals nationwide. This major step toward free treatment will play a significant role in advancing the goal of Universal Health Coverage.
The Medical & Health Minister informed that the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya (MAA) Yojana is ensuring comprehensive health security for millions of families in the state. By integrating and expanding the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the scheme has now become a strong guarantee of free and cashless medical treatment not only within Rajasthan, but also beyond its borders. About six months ago, the State Government introduced Inter-State Portability in the first phase, beginning with inbound portability, under which citizens from other states were able to receive treatment in Rajasthan. From 19 December onward, outbound portability has now been launched, enabling citizens of Rajasthan to obtain free treatment in other states as well.
Relief for Patients Suffering from Critical Illnesses
Principal Secretary, Medical & Health Department, Smt. Gayatri Rathore stated that earlier, many patients suffering from serious diseases were compelled to travel to states such as Gujarat and Delhi for treatment, where they had to bear heavy out-of-pocket expenses. Understanding this hardship, the State Government has taken a historic and welfare-oriented decision by implementing outbound portability. Under this new provision, eligible families of Rajasthan will now be able to receive cashless treatment in empanelled hospitals outside the state. The benefit of outbound portability will extend not only to PMJAY-eligible families, but also to all beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana, who will now receive free treatment up to ₹25 lakh in other states as well.
Access to Quality Care in Reputed Hospitals
Smt. Rathore further informed that under outbound portability, treatment facilities will be available in around 16,000 government and 14,000 private hospitals across various states of the country (except Tamil Nadu and Karnataka). Prominent hospitals in neighboring states have also been included. These empanelled institutions include 184 hospitals in Delhi, 2,067 in Gujarat, 1,366 in Haryana, 1,622 in Madhya Pradesh, 1,709 in Maharashtra, 823 in Punjab, and 6,182 hospitals in Uttar Pradesh. Major national institutions such as AIIMS Delhi and Bhopal, Medanta, PGI Chandigarh, KGMU Lucknow, UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, The Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, and Banas Medical College & Research Institute, Palanpur, are also part of the network.
₹7,100 Crore in Cashless Treatment Provided So Far — Around 350 Patients Benefited in Other States Within 15 Days
Chief Executive Officer of the Rajasthan State Health Assurance Agency, Shri Harjeelal Atal, informed that nearly 350 patients have already availed treatment under outbound portability within a span of just 15 days. At present, 1.36 crore eligible families in Rajasthan are receiving cashless treatment benefits up to ₹25 lakh under the scheme. Around 2,200 treatment packages are covered, ranging from common ailments to complex and high-cost procedures such as cancer, cardiac and kidney diseases, and organ transplants. In the past two years, more than 37 lakh patients have received free treatment worth over ₹7,100 crore under the scheme. Among them are nearly 2.5 lakh critically ill patients who were battling life-threatening conditions and have been given a new lease of life through this initiative.
A Major Step Toward Fulfilling the Vision of “Healthcare for All”
The decision to implement outbound portability brings immense relief to lakhs of patients and their families who require specialized treatment in major cities and advanced medical centers. Through the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana, the Rajasthan Government has made it clear that neither distance nor financial limitations will stand in the way of access to healthcare. This pioneering initiative truly embodies and advances the commitment to “Healthcare for All.”
