Water Monitors Trained to Promote Water Conservation in School

UDAIPUR — Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sundarwas, has launched a student-led water conservation initiative by appointing two "Water Monitors" from each class to promote responsible water use among their peers.

During a workshop, senior Water Friend Dr. P.C. Jain trained the students using multimedia presentations on practical ways to save water throughout the day. The session highlighted simple measures such as turning off taps while brushing, using buckets instead of showers, ensuring taps are properly closed, reusing RO wastewater for cleaning and gardening, and harvesting rainwater by directing it into tube wells and hand pumps.

Dr. Jain also explained the concept of "virtual water," noting that producing one kilogram of chocolate requires about 17,000 liters of water, while manufacturing an A4 sheet of paper consumes around 10 liters.

The student monitors will now educate classmates and conduct a survey of 10 households each to assess groundwater conditions. The workshop was coordinated by Priyanka Sharma, while Principal Rachna Dwivedi thanked Dr. Jain for the initiative.
