Demand Raised for Granting Y-Category Status to Udaipur City; Suggestions for Rail Expansion Also Put Forward

Udaipur: Member of Parliament Dr. Mannalal Rawat held a public hearing on Thursday at his MP office located in the Zila Parishad premises, where more than 100 individuals, organizations, and delegations submitted representations regarding their demands. While rural areas raised issues related to roads, construction of school classrooms, opening of pathways, and provision of basic amenities, urban representatives highlighted major civic problems and long-pending issues of the city. Several matters related to the Municipal Corporation and UDA were resolved on the spot by the MP.

During the public hearing, the Rajasthan Private Assistant Cadre Federation demanded that Udaipur city be granted Y Category (B-2) status. District President Chandresh Jain, along with his delegation, informed that currently Udaipur is placed in the Z category for House Rent Allowance (HRA) for state government employees, under which only 10 percent HRA is provided. However, being a major tourism city, rental rates in Udaipur are quite high. Additionally, 46 villages have been merged into the city limits and the number of municipal wards has increased to 80, taking the urban population to 5,73,585. On this basis, the delegation demanded Y-category status for the city.

The issue of railway expansion for Udaipur was also raised during the hearing. Local citizen Shyam Prakash Mehta suggested starting direct rail services to Udaipur from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad via Ahmedabad. He also proposed a direct rail service from Mumbai Central to Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Dungarpur, Udaipur, and Nathdwara.

Former Chairman of the Municipal Corporation’s Construction Committee, Ashish Kothari, submitted a complaint regarding the Housing Board road connecting Jadav Nursery to the Geetanjali Highway. He urged completion of the remaining road work and requested early construction of a bridge or underpass by the Railways, stating that this would ease daily commuting for nearly 50,000 people.

Sai Vihar Seva Samiti President Premsingh Chauhan, along with his delegation, requested provision of basic amenities in a colony located in Titradi. A memorandum submitted by the Mahila Mandal demanded approval for opening a Scheduled Caste girls’ hostel in Udaipur district, and also sought an increase in the sanctioned capacity of the Kasturba Tribal Girls’ Hostel run by Mahila Mandal, Udaipur.
The Rajasthan Divyang Utthan Samiti demanded 4 percent reservation for specially-abled persons from Panchayati Raj institutions up to the Legislative Assembly.

A delegation from Sanwaliya Vihar Colony demanded construction of an alternative road, as the existing narrow road prevents access for fire brigade vehicles and garbage collection vans.

Several representations were also received from rural areas. Villagers demanded the resumption of discontinued Roadways bus services in the Pratapgarh, Badi Sadri, and Dhariyawad regions. A complaint was lodged regarding fake land pattas in Bhuvana Gram Panchayat, with a demand for investigation against land mafias.

Leader of Opposition in Zila Parishad, Maniben Patel, submitted a representation regarding pending works in Gram Panchayat Padedi (Rishabhdev). The demands included release of funds for reconstruction of the dilapidated PHC Padedi, concreting of the earthen canals of Hathiya Talab, and relocation of electric poles installed inside the pond to the roadside.
Villagers of Retda village (Nayagaon tehsil) sought construction of a community hall from MP funds. BJP Yuva Morcha Kanbai Mandal President Kaluram Malviya demanded approval for construction of a new building for Government Upper Primary School, Bhanwa.
