Google or Guru? Student Dialogue Explores Knowledge in the Digital Age

Udaipur: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Mohanlal Sukhadia University organized a student interaction on the theme "Google or Guru?", encouraging students to reflect on the relationship between digital information sources and the traditional teacher-disciple system.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Kunjan Acharya, Head of the Department. Coordinated by first-year BA student Narendra Singh Bhagarot, the discussion witnessed enthusiastic participation as students shared their perspectives on the role of technology and teachers in contemporary education.

Students including Sweety Kunwar Jhala, Parth Dak, Mahesh Puri Goswami, Mahendra Singh Devda, Aishneyi, Yugal Kishore Yadav, Sejal Jain, Kaumudi Mohale, and Jigyasa Bhardwaj expressed their views. While appreciating Google and other digital platforms for their accessibility, speed, and vast repository of information, they emphasized that the depth of knowledge, ethical values, critical thinking, and life lessons can only be imparted by a guru.

The programme featured Dr. Bharat Bhushan Ojha and Dr. Kalpana Acharya as chief guests. Addressing students' queries, they remarked that while Google is an immense source of information, it is the guru who provides the wisdom, guidance, and moral direction needed to use that knowledge meaningfully. They stressed that a balanced use of both digital resources and traditional mentorship is essential for today's students.

Students participated actively in the interaction, making it an engaging and thought-provoking session. Concluding the programme, Dr. Kunjan Acharya appreciated the students' initiative and said that such discussions play a significant role in nurturing critical thinking, communication skills, and intellectual curiosity among young learners.
