Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma and Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw jointly flagged off the Jaipur (Khatiapura)–Darbhanga Amrit Bharat Express (operating six days a week) on June 21, 2026. On the same occasion, the newly constructed Mega Coaching Terminal at Khatiapura and upgraded passenger facilities at various railway stations were also inaugurated. Bihar Chief Minister Shri Samrat Choudhary joined the event virtually via video conferencing.

In his address, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma described the day as historic for both Rajasthan and Bihar and extended gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister for their leadership. He noted that the long-pending demand for a direct train between Jaipur and Darbhanga has now been fulfilled, which will greatly benefit residents of both states. He highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian culture is reaching the global stage, especially on the occasion of International Yoga Day.

He further stated that the inauguration of the new train, the Mega Coaching Terminal, and enhanced passenger facilities will boost trade, tourism, employment, and regional development in Rajasthan. He also emphasized the significant progress in the railway sector in the state, including the operation of five Vande Bharat trains, 100% electrification, and record budget allocation. Rajasthan has received over ₹10,000 crore in railway budget allocation for the first time, while railway projects worth ₹76,800 crore are currently underway. Additionally, 3,900 km of railway lines have been constructed in the last 12 years.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the new train will connect the cultural heritage of Rajasthan and Bihar’s Mithila region, fulfilling a commitment made to migrant Bihar residents during the election period. He highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the railway network is expanding rapidly with several new trains being introduced across the country.

He also announced a new station, Sundarpura, to be developed 11 km from Khatu Shyam Ji to facilitate pilgrims. While travelling from Bikaner to Jaipur, he personally inspected the site and expressed his commitment to its development for the convenience of devotees. He also shared details of the station’s design and layout.

Vaishnaw further informed that the Mega Coaching Terminal at Khatiapura is the first of its kind in India, part of a planned network of 50 such terminals across the country. Designed with a 20-year future requirement in mind, the terminal will handle maintenance of up to 450 trains per month, enabling increased train operations from the Jaipur region.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Shri Samrat Choudhary, joining via video conference, thanked the Railway Minister for the new train service and said that several railway projects have been gifted to Bihar in recent years. He noted that the new service will greatly benefit migrant workers travelling between Rajasthan and Bihar.

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Diya Kumari expressed gratitude for the two new trains and appreciated the Railway Minister’s efforts in implementing the Prime Minister’s vision. She also thanked the government for railway developments linking Mewar and Marwar, including the Mavli–Deogarh gauge conversion and the Pushkar–Medta new rail line project.

MPs Smt. Manju Sharma (Jaipur) and Shri Gopal Ji Thakur (Darbhanga) also expressed their gratitude to the Railway Minister.

Earlier, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected the Mega Coaching Terminal at Khatiapura and congratulated officials for the achievement. He directed further expansion of maintenance facilities. He stated that this is India’s first mega coaching terminal, developed keeping in mind the needs of the next 20 years. It will support maintenance for trains bound towards Delhi, Bikaner, and Jodhpur, while additional depots are being developed for other routes.

The Jaipur (Khatiapura)–Darbhanga Amrit Bharat Express is a significant rail service strengthening connectivity between Rajasthan and Bihar. It will provide safe, smooth, and comfortable travel, particularly benefiting passengers travelling for employment, education, business, and family reasons. Currently, a weekly train service operates between Ajmer and Darbhanga; this new six-day-a-week service will further enhance connectivity.

Jaipur, known for its rich cultural heritage, tourism, and industrial growth, and Darbhanga, a major center of Mithila culture, education, and history, will now be better connected, promoting cultural exchange and economic activity.

The ₹205 crore Mega Coaching Terminal at Khatiapura has been developed with advanced infrastructure including new railway lines, washing pits, stabling lines, and modern technical systems. It will significantly enhance maintenance capacity and reduce operational pressure on Jaipur Junction.

Additionally, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, several passenger facility improvements have been undertaken at 41 small and medium stations under North Western Railway. These include new platforms, platform upgrades and extensions, and the introduction of Integrated Passenger Information Systems at 16 stations, aiming to provide a more comfortable, safe, and seamless travel experience for passengers.
