Udaipur: A meeting of the District-Level Rehabilitation and Resettlement Committee was held on Wednesday at the Collectorate Mini Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Collector Namit Mehta. The meeting focused on land acquisition, rehabilitation, and resettlement of families affected by the ambitious Dewas Phase III and IV dam projects, aimed at meeting the drinking water needs of Udaipur city and keeping its world-famous lakes filled.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the rehabilitation, compensation distribution, and resettlement plans for a total of 368 affected families. Officials informed that efforts are being made to resettle families as close as possible to their original villages. Keeping in mind the needs of tribal-dominated areas, each affected family will be provided with a 30×60 ft residential plot and a 30×15 ft space for livestock.
Basic infrastructure and amenities are being developed at the resettlement sites as per norms, including schools, community centers, drinking water facilities, roads, drainage systems, anganwadis, sub-health centers, toilets, veterinary hospitals, fair price shops, playgrounds, cremation grounds, and places of worship.
During the meeting, local public representatives suggested that members of the same family should be allotted plots close to each other. The District Collector assured that this concern would be considered as much as possible during the allotment process through a lottery system. He also stated that any further suggestions from affected families or representatives after the meeting would be seriously considered and acted upon as per rules.
Collector Namit Mehta directed officials to prioritize and complete rehabilitation work within a fixed timeline. The meeting was attended by Additional District Collector Deependra Singh Rathore, Land Acquisition Officer and Gogunda Sub-Divisional Officer Shubham Bhaisare, Superintending Engineer Manoj Jain, Executive Engineer Birbal Dudi, along with officials from concerned departments. Public representatives and villagers from affected areas also participated and shared their suggestions.
