Protest Against Proposal to Shift Mewar-Vagad Medical and Paramedical Colleges to Marwar Medical Universit

Udaipur: A delegation of representatives from various educational institutions, including directors, principals, and faculty members of nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, lab technician, and other paramedical colleges in the Mewar-Vagad region, met Divisional Commissioner **Pragya Kewalramani** today. The delegation submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister and the Medical Minister, opposing the proposal to shift affiliation of these institutions from the **Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur**, to the **Marwar Medical University**.

The representatives informed the Commissioner that thousands of students from the Mewar-Vagad region are currently pursuing their education in institutions affiliated with RUHS, Jaipur. They argued that transferring these colleges to Marwar Medical University would not be in the interest of students or educational institutions, as adequate academic and administrative infrastructure is not yet available there to ensure smooth functioning of these courses.

The delegation also highlighted that public representatives from the region had earlier expressed similar concerns. MPs **Mannalal Rawat** and **Chunnilal Garasia**, MLAs **Tarachand Jain**, **Phool Singh Meena**, **Deepti Maheshwari**, and **Shrichand Kriplani**, among others, had submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister and the Medical Minister demanding that the existing affiliation with RUHS, Jaipur, be maintained. MLA Shrichand Kriplani had also raised the issue in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, following which the Medical Minister had assured the formation of a high-level committee.

Accordingly, a committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Pragya Kewalramani, with the Vice Chancellors of both Marwar Medical University and RUHS included as members. The committee’s report is currently pending. In this context, the representatives urged the Commissioner to submit a balanced and positive report to the state government, keeping in view the interests of students and institutions.

**Harish Rajani**, President of the Udaipur Nursing College Association, stated that memorandums have been submitted earlier as well on this issue to the Chief Minister and Medical Minister. He said repeated discussions and proposals have created uncertainty among thousands of students, adversely affecting their studies and creating an atmosphere of confusion.

Rajani urged the Divisional Commissioner to forward a report to the Chief Minister and Medical Minister that takes into account the broader interests of students, institutions, and the Mewar-Vagad region. He cautioned that shifting these institutions without adequate infrastructure and comprehensive review could negatively impact the future of thousands of students.

He further remarked that the Mewar-Vagad region has long struggled for its rights, drawing a parallel with the long-pending demand for a High Court Bench in Udaipur, due to which residents are often required to travel to Jodhpur for even minor judicial matters. Similarly, he stressed that the educational needs and regional interests of Mewar-Vagad should not be overlooked.

The delegation unanimously demanded that all nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, lab technician, and other paramedical institutions in the region continue their affiliation with RUHS, Jaipur, as earlier. They emphasized that this would ensure stability in education, examination processes, and students’ academic future, while also respecting the sentiments of thousands of families in the region.

The representatives expressed confidence that the state government and the constituted committee would prioritize the interests of students and the Mewar-Vagad region and take a positive decision to maintain the existing affiliation with RUHS, Jaipur.
