Banswara: Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari National Joint General Secretary Shri Kishore Tokekar said that the renaissance of any nation cannot be achieved merely through political systems, institutional structures or economic development. It requires the creation of individuals endowed with strong character, values, discipline, a spirit of service and a deep sense of national consciousness.

He called upon enlightened, aware and sensitive citizens to come together and undertake sustained efforts to preserve India’s national identity, cultural heritage and Sanatan traditions.

Tokekar was speaking as the keynote speaker at a special intellectual discourse and discussion on “Nation’s Renaissance Through Character Building” held at Shri Pitambara Ashram on Sunday. The programme was jointly organised by Gayatri Mandal Banswara and Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Rajasthan Province.

The session was presided over by Sant Shri Ramprakash Ji Maharaj, head of Bada Ramdwara and a noted spiritual thinker.

Nation Is More Than a Geographical Territory

Presenting an extensive perspective on the concept of nationhood, Tokekar said a nation cannot be viewed merely through political boundaries or geographical limits. A nation is essentially a living cultural consciousness shaped by shared history, traditions, values, social memories and an emotional bond with the motherland.

Referring to the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda and Maharshi Aurobindo on nationhood, he said the soul of a nation lies in its cultural consciousness. A society that maintains an intimate and emotional relationship with its land, nature, traditions and worldview can preserve its distinct identity over generations.

He said the Indian conception of nationhood has traditionally viewed the land not merely as a physical resource but as the motherland. The air, water, nature, traditions and social values of the country are integral parts of the Indian way of life.

Character Building Is the Foundation

Tokekar said the real foundation of nation-building is the development of individuals. If citizens are principled, sensitive, disciplined, dutiful and committed to the nation, families, society and the nation as a whole will naturally become stronger.

He stressed that awareness of duties must accompany awareness of rights. Unless responsible citizens actively participate in intellectual, social and constructive activities, it would be difficult to effectively address both internal and external challenges.

He said Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari is working across the country through various initiatives focused on individual development, social awakening and national renaissance.

Preserving Cultural Roots Is Essential

Tokekar said one of the major challenges facing society today is preserving its national identity and cultural distinctiveness amid changing times. Local cultures, traditions and social values often require continuous efforts by aware citizens to ensure their protection.

He emphasised that progress does not mean becoming disconnected from one’s roots. Along with modernity and development, society must preserve its cultural consciousness, traditional knowledge and foundational values.

Collective Efforts Needed for Meaningful Change

Tokekar said national renaissance requires human sensitivity, values, social responsibility and patriotism to become integral to every section of society. Individual efforts alone are not sufficient; different sections of society must come together around a shared purpose.

He particularly emphasised character building, national self-respect, cultural identity and the spirit of service among young people. He said creating awareness among individuals through diverse and impactful initiatives is one of the most important responsibilities of the present era.

Selfless Service Can Strengthen Society

Presiding over the programme, Sant Shri Ramprakash Ji Maharaj said selfless action performed with dedication and a spirit of service forms the foundation of genuine social and national progress.

He called for embracing social harmony, mutual cooperation and the ideals of national duty in everyday life. Merely expressing ideas is not enough; they must be translated into action through exemplary conduct and dedicated service. Every individual can become an effective agent of positive social change through personal conduct and service.

Information on Projects in Tribal Areas

The programme began with a collective Pranav chanting and auspicious invocation led by Himanshu Bhaiya. Kantilal Vyas provided detailed information about various activities being undertaken under the Western Region Tribal Projects of Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari.
