Demand for Y-Category Status for Udaipur Raised at MP Dr. Rawat’s Public Hearing; Proposals for Railway Expansion Also Submitted

Udaipur: Member of Parliament Dr. Mannalal Rawat held a public hearing on Thursday at the MP Office located in the Zila Parishad premises, where more than 100 individuals, organizations, and delegations submitted grievances and demands. Issues ranged from basic infrastructure needs in rural areas to major pending civic problems in Udaipur city. Several matters related to the Municipal Corporation and UDA were resolved immediately on the spot.

During the hearing, rural representatives raised demands related to road construction, school classrooms, opening blocked pathways, and provision of essential amenities. At the same time, urban delegations highlighted long-pending civic and public-interest issues affecting the city.

One of the key demands was raised by the Rajasthan Private Assistant Cadre Federation, which sought Y Category (B-2) status for Udaipur city. District President Chandresh Jain, along with his delegation, explained that Udaipur is currently placed under the Z category for House Rent Allowance (HRA), under which state employees receive only 10 percent HRA. However, due to Udaipur being a major tourism city, rental costs are significantly higher. They also pointed out that 46 villages have been merged into the city limits, the number of municipal wards has increased to 80, and the urban population has reached 5,73,585, making a strong case for upgrading the city to Y category.

The issue of railway expansion for Udaipur was also prominently raised. Local citizen Shyam Prakash Mehta suggested the introduction of direct rail services to Udaipur from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad via Ahmedabad. Additionally, he proposed a direct rail route from Mumbai Central to Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Dungarpur, Udaipur, and Nathdwara.

Former Chairman of the Municipal Corporation Construction Committee Ashish Kothari submitted a complaint regarding the Rajasthan Housing Board road connecting Jadaw Nursery to the Geetanjali Highway. He urged completion of the remaining road work and early construction of a railway bridge or underpass, stating that it would ease daily commuting for nearly 50,000 residents.

The Sai Vihar Seva Samiti, led by President Premsingh Chauhan, demanded basic civic amenities for a colony in Titradi. A memorandum submitted by the Mahila Mandal sought approval for opening a Scheduled Caste girls’ hostel in Udaipur district, along with an increase in the sanctioned intake capacity at the Kasturba Tribal Girls’ Hostel run by the organization.

The Rajasthan Divyang Utthan Samiti demanded 4 percent reservation for persons with disabilities, from Panchayati Raj institutions up to the Legislative Assembly. A delegation from Sanwaliya Vihar Colony requested an alternative access road, citing safety concerns as the existing road is too narrow for fire tenders and garbage collection vehicles.

Several grievances were also received from rural areas. Residents demanded the resumption of suspended RSRTC bus services in the Pratapgarh, Badi Sadri, and Dhariyawad regions. A complaint regarding fake land allotments in Bhuwana Gram Panchayat was submitted, seeking an inquiry and action against land mafias.

Leader of Opposition in the Zila Parishad Maniben Patel submitted grievances related to pending works in Padedi Gram Panchayat, Rishabhdev, including funds for reconstruction of the dilapidated PHC building, concretization of canals connected to Hathiya Talab, and relocation of electricity poles from inside the pond to the roadside.

Villagers from Retda village (Nayagaon tehsil) demanded construction of a community hall from MP funds. BJP Yuva Morcha Kanbai Mandal President Kaluram Malviya requested approval for a new building for Government Upper Primary School, Bhanwa. Meanwhile, Nishant Sharma and villagers from Khemli submitted a memorandum highlighting public inconvenience due to the absence of an underpass or overbridge at Khemli railway station.

MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat assured the attendees that all genuine grievances would be taken up with the concerned departments and necessary steps would be initiated for prompt resolution.
