MPUAT Scholar Completes Ph.D. Research on Silica and Vermicompost Use in Maize Cultivation

 

UDAIPUR— Anshul Sharma, a doctoral scholar in the Department of Agronomy at the Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), has successfully completed his Ph.D. research on the integrated use of silica and vermicompost to improve the growth and productivity of maize (Zea mays L.).

The research, conducted under the guidance of Dr. Arvind Verma, examined the impact of combining silica with vermicompost on maize growth, yield and nutrient-use efficiency. The study aimed to scientifically evaluate how the integrated application of these inputs could enhance crop performance while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

According to the research findings, the balanced use of silica and vermicompost has the potential to significantly improve maize growth and yield. The study also indicated that the technology could contribute to better soil health, reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and support environmentally sustainable farming systems.

The research was supported through the Prime Minister's Doctoral Research Fellowship, which provided financial assistance for the project and facilitated high-quality scientific research.

Sharma credited the successful completion of his doctoral work to the support and guidance of his parents, principal advisor Dr. Arvind Verma, faculty members of the Department of Agronomy, the university administration and his colleagues.

The study is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to develop sustainable crop production technologies for maize cultivation and improve resource-use efficiency in agriculture.
