Dr. Rajesh Kumar Vyas: Eminent Art, Culture Critic from Rajasthan

JAIPUR, Rajasthan: Dr. Rajesh Kumar Vyas is a noted literary figure, art and culture critic, and tourism scholar from Jaipur who has made significant contributions to literature, cultural studies, tourism, and journalism over the past several decades. A senior officer in the Rajasthan Government's Department of Information and Public Relations, he is currently serving as Additional Director (Public Relations) at the Governor's Secretariat.

Born on September 14, 1973, in Bikaner to the late Prem Swaroop Vyas and Shanti Vyas, Dr. Vyas holds a Ph.D. in Tourism Management, an MBA, an MJMC, and a PGDCA. He is proficient in Hindi, Rajasthani, and English and has written extensively in poetry, travel writing, literary criticism, essays, and other literary genres.

Dr. Vyas has authored more than 1,000 research papers and has presented keynote addresses, special lectures, and research papers at numerous national and international seminars. His scholarly work has itself become the subject of academic research, including doctoral studies on cultural consciousness in his travel narratives. Several of his books have been incorporated into the curricula of institutions such as Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and Mohanlal Sukhadia University.

His contributions to broadcasting and media are equally noteworthy. He wrote the Doordarshan serial Desert Calling and scripted and directed the documentary Ghar To Naam Hai Bharose Ka on eminent litterateur and former National School of Drama chairman Prof. Arjun Dev Charan for the Sahitya Akademi. He coordinated and presented Doordarshan's popular programme Samvad for five years and hosted the Rajasthani programme Marudhara for nearly a decade. He has also written more than two dozen documentaries for Doordarshan and over a dozen radio features for All India Radio.

As a columnist, Dr. Vyas has contributed to leading publications including Daily News, News Today, Dainik Bhaskar, Navbharat Times, and Hindustan. For more than a decade, he has been writing the widely read "Art & Culture" column in Rajasthan Patrika.

Dr. Vyas has held several prestigious academic and institutional positions. He has served as a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Museum Research and Development Committee, the Rajasthani Language Advisory Board of the Sahitya Akademi, and the Research Advisory Committee of the Lalit Kala Akademi. He has also been a governing council member of the Rajasthan Textbook Board and Rajasthan Madrasa Board and served on the Rajasthan Government's high-level committee for the Life Skills Education Curriculum.

He is a member of the Academic Council of Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Jaipur, and has served as a Board of Studies member, visiting professor, academic advisor, and textbook author for more than a dozen universities across India. His academic and literary engagements have also taken him to France, Germany, and Nepal.

Dr. Vyas has authored 28 original books spanning travelogues, poetry, literary criticism, essays, tourism studies, novels, and children's literature. His notable travelogues include Kashmir Se Kanyakumari, Narmade Har, and Aankh Bhar Umang. His poetry collections include Jharne Lagte Hain Shabd, Kavita Deti Hai Drishti, Ji Raiyo Minakh, Kavita Devai Deeth, and Deeth Rai Paar. Other important works include the novel Lalitaditya; children's books Buddhi Se Vijay and Aise Baraste Hain Baadal; and critical works such as Kalaon Ki Antardrishti, Kala-Man, Ras Niranjan, Bhartiya Kala, Rang Naad, Sur Jo Saje, Saundarya Ke Satyanveshi, and Kalavak. He has also written extensively on tourism through books including Sanskritik Paryatan, Rajasthan Mein Paryatan Prabandh, Paryatan Udbhav Evam Vikas, Bharat Mein Paryatan, Vaishvik Paryatan, Paryatan Avdharanayein (Parts I & II), and Rajasthan Mein Paryatan (Parts I & II).

In addition to his original works, Dr. Vyas has edited important volumes including Natyashastra: Pancham Ved Par Ekagr, Rajasthani Kaljayi Kahaniyan, and Aanchal Ka Deep. His translations include Narmade Har, published by the National Book Trust, and the poetry collection Kavita Devai Deeth, published by the Sahitya Akademi.

His distinguished contributions have earned him numerous national honours. Among the most prominent are the Sahitya Akademi's highest honour, the All India Acharya Ramchandra Shukla Criticism Award from the Government of Madhya Pradesh, the prestigious Rahul Sankrityayan Award from the Government of India, the Komal Kothari Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Ministry of Culture and the West Zone Cultural Centre, the Hindi Seva Award from the Rajasthan Government, the Suryamal Mishran Shikhar Samman, the Ganeshilal Vyas Ustad Padma Award, the Bhasha Sevi Samman, the Rajasthan Government's Outstanding Writer Award, the Shatabdi Bhasha Gaurav Award from Jai Narain Vyas University, the Shri Gopal Purohit Cultural Journalism Award, Rajasthan Gaurav, and the Manak Alankaran for excellence in journalism.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar Vyas continues to remain actively engaged in literature, cultural discourse, research, and public communication while serving the Government of Rajasthan.
