Udaipur: A 7-year-old boy suffering from recurrent rectal prolapse has been successfully treated at Geetanjali Medical College and Hospital using a minimally invasive technique that requires no abdominal incision or external surgical scar.
The procedure, known as transanal rectal suture rectopexy, was performed for the first time in Udaipur by a team led by General Surgeon and Professor Dr. Mohit Kumar Badgurjar and Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Ajit Kumar Vidyarthi.
According to doctors, the child had been experiencing repeated protrusion of the rectum during bowel movements. He would manually push the protruding portion back inside. The child also had intermittent constipation. Following clinical evaluation and necessary investigations, doctors diagnosed him with rectal prolapse.
The surgical team performed transanal rectal suture rectopexy through the natural anal route, eliminating the need for an incision in the abdomen.
Doctors said the minimally invasive technique offers the advantage of no external surgical scar, while reducing surgical trauma associated with conventional approaches. The child recovered well following the procedure.
The successful treatment marks a significant advancement in minimally invasive pediatric surgery at Geetanjali Medical College and Hospital and provides a less invasive treatment option for selected children with rectal prolapse.
