Udaipur: Addressing devotees during the ongoing Chaturmas discourses organised under the aegis of the Shri Vardhman Sthanakvasi Jain Shravak Sangh, Udaipur, Upadhyay Dr. Rajendra Muni said that greed is the fundamental cause of many human vices and conflicts.

He said greed often leads people towards injustice, violence, falsehood, theft, lack of self-restraint and strained relationships. According to him, many disputes and conflicts in society are rooted in excessive attachment to material possessions and desires. Greed can weaken a person’s judgement and lead them towards an inappropriate path.

Dr. Rajendra Muni said that Lord Mahavira taught the importance of overcoming greed, while the Bhagavad Gita also identifies greed as a cause of human downfall. He emphasised that peace and contentment can be achieved by reducing attachment to possessions and practising the principle of Aparigraha (non-possessiveness).

He said that through detached action, individuals can rise above greed and attachment. Endless desires make the mind restless, while controlling desires and cultivating contentment can make life more meaningful and peaceful.

Dr. Rajendra Muni called upon monks, nuns and members of the Jain community to spread the message of self-restraint, renunciation and non-possessiveness. Such values, he said, can promote peace, contentment, harmony, mutual respect and brotherhood in society.
